Database Requirements

Service Account Manager collects information about your services that can generate an enormous amount of data. By default, Service Account Manager will use the built-in registry of the operating system to store data and the settings of the program. This option will work for a simple evaluation of Service Account Manager on a small number of systems, however, if you will be performing an in depth evaluation of Service Account Manager or are putting this program into production, you must use an SQL Express or SQL database for your data store.

SQL Express is free but is has significant limitations that cause most users of Service Account Manager to utilize the full Microsoft SQL Server package. There are concurrent connection limits and size database limitations. SQL Express is only recommended for testing situations or small business (< 100 systems). Switching to SQL Server removes all of the size and complexity limitations and improves performance by orders of magnitude (x10-x100).
