Lieberman Software Joins RSA Secured® Partner Program to Provide Interoperable RSA SecurID® Two-Factor Authentication Technology
RSA SecurID® Technology Helps Control and Protect Access to Local System Passwords Managed by Lieberman Software’s Random Password Manager
(Los Angeles, CA – April 8, 2008) Lieberman Software Corporation and RSA, The Security Division of EMC (NYSE: EMC) have achieved technical interoperability between RSA SecurID® two-factor authentication and Lieberman Software’s Random Password Manager™. With two-factor authentication technology enabled by RSA, only authorized personnel can access the current local passwords managed by this product. Lieberman Software is exhibiting in booth 538 at RSA Conference 2008 in San Francisco this week.
Random Password Manager is a privileged identity management solution that changes, recovers, and manages firecall account passwords. It ensures that every system in the enterprise maintains unique administrator or root account credentials, preventing one decrypted local password from providing unauthorized peer-level access throughout the network. This product continuously randomizes the local passwords on systems throughout the enterprise. The passwords are secured using AES-256 encryption in a SQL Server database, and can be recovered on demand by delegated users via a Win32 application and a web-based console.
“Due to the sensitive nature of the data that we handle, we knew that two-factor authentication was a must for our products,” said Philip Lieberman, president of Lieberman Software. “Our research indicated that the majority of our enterprise customers were already using RSA SecurID technology. Adding Lieberman Software products to the list of applications designated as RSA SecurID Ready was a logical business decision.”
Two-Factor Authentication - Two-factor authentication helps prevent data from being accessed via key loggers, shoulder surfing, or social engineering. As a result of the RSA Secured certification, RSA SecurID technology helps to ensure that only staff with physical possession of an RSA SecurID hardware authenticator and properly provisioned credentials can access the passwords generated and stored by Lieberman Software products.
The RSA SecurID system is as simple to use as entering a password, but significantly more secure. Used in conjunction with RSA Authentication Manager software, an RSA SecurID authenticator functions like an ATM card for a company network, requiring users to identify themselves with two unique factors - something they know (a password or PIN) and something they have (an RSA SecurID authenticator such as a hardware token) - before they are granted access to secure business information.
The interoperability of RSA SecurID and Random Password Manager provides joint customers with the option of leveraging two-factor authentication to protect their sensitive information. Local access to Random Password Manager is checked against a central database to confirm if the user is permitted access and if RSA SecurID authentication is required. If so, a dialog box pops up requiring that the user enter an RSA SecurID passcode – which changes every 60 seconds – along with a personal PIN.
“It is more critical than ever for companies to increase the security and integrity of their valuable information. In order to help our joint customers better protect their information, we are pleased to be working with Lieberman Software to achieve interoperability between RSA SecurID technology and Random Password Manager,” said D.J. Long, senior director, Corporate Development at RSA, The Security Division of EMC. “Our organizations are committed to help mitigate risk to sensitive information throughout its lifecycle to ensure that it is always an asset – and not a liability – in order to allow organizations to accelerate their business objectives.”
Lieberman Software plans to integrate two-factor authentication into more products later this year.
