2012 IT Security Survey

IT Security Survey 2012 Lieberman Software's 2012 IT Security Survey reports on the insights of IT professionals regarding their access to sensitive data and systems, along with their willingness to exploit this access.

Highlights include:

  • 39 percent of IT staff can get unauthorized access to their organization’s most sensitive information – including the CEO’s data.
  • 68 percent of respondents believe that as an IT professional they have more access to sensitive data than people in other departments.
  • 20 percent of IT professionals have already exploited their privileged access.
  • 11 percent of respondents would use their access to sensitive data if they were laid off.

These results suggest that many organizations are unaware of the level of access that their IT staff have to systems which may contain highly sensitive data. Without a way to restrict privileged account access to only delegated and audited users, these organizations risk costly data breaches and failed regulatory compliance audits.

The survey researched more than 450 IT professionals. Respondents were from all major vertical market segments in North America and Europe. More than 55% of respondents work in organizations with at least 1,000 employees.

Lieberman Software offers privileged identity management products, including Enterprise Random Password Manager (ERPM), that continuously locate, update and track local, domain, and process account passwords in the data center. It ensures that only authorized, audited IT staff can access sensitive systems, with an approved purpose, for a limited amount of time.
